COMPETITIONS

Dates

Merinda is a competitive College, and one of the few colleges / clubs that compete in the Championship division.  We participate in approximately 4 team competitions per year.  Attendance at every competition is required for all pupils in all sections. Students are to arrive and depart from competitions in full uniform. Tan, make-up, and groomed hair as requested should be completed before arrival. It is necessary to arrive at competitions at least three quarters of an hour before the scheduled starting time.

  • We ask all families / supporters to not sit in the first 5 rows of the theatre where possible.

  • All young children must be supervised and be sitting with an adult in the theatre.

  • Siblings are not to be playing or running around in foyer areas of theatres unsupervised.

  • Competitors are not permitted to sit in the first 2 rows of the theatre.  If a coach / principal of Merinda asks you to move, please do so.  This is for the benefit of the girls on stage.

SOLO COMPS AND CLASS CLASHES

A note about solos and class.

We love that so many of our pupils are so devoted to their sport of calisthenics and that they are challenging themselves by putting in the extra time training and competing in solos. At this time, We must remind parents that having a solo competition is not a reason to miss class, leave early from class or arrive to class late.

Merinda's policy is quite clear that class work must come first. If you have a clash, it is expected to either withdraw from that competition OR contact the organisers and see if you can arrange to be early in the program (and leave before the results) or compete later in the program.

Exceptions:

- Elimination competitions (RSS, State Team)

- State Titles (CVI), National Titles, RSS

- State Team Commitment (although not a solo it's good to clarify this at the same time)... Occasionally state team will have events that clash with class - in these instances state team usually comes first.

Grey areas:

When class is changed it is still expected that class comes first, however sometimes the coach of the section will try to work around comps. You should not assume that this will be the case though.

We hope you understand that we are not trying to be heavy handed, but (especially with the number of soloist we now have), it would be detrimental to the team to have girls missing all or part of class to attend solo competitions. Like all championship clubs, this has been Merinda's policy for the past 40 years and will continue to be.

Extra note:

Sometimes there are other exceptions, such as the case for 2021 when only a limited number of Junior solo comps were offered and all were during junior class.  In these situations it's best to advise us as soon as possible to see if we can find a way forward.
